Background
A Bolivian-American story in which I travel to my father’s country to unravel the family history. They were slaveholders in the colonial period. In the 1930s my grandfather was president during the bloodiest war in Latin American history. Later, another relative wrote the land reform law and administered the first elections in which Bolivian Indians could vote. The family also had connections with an infamous Nazi war criminal.
