3 Short Poems

By Pondicherry India Poet/Essayist/ Critic Aju Mukhopadhyay

Shadow Flashed

Is it the shadow of a dark cloud

Hovering over the lake endless

In the moonless starless night around

Like a veritable menace

That flashed in the lightning in its heart

Like the echo of sound unheard?

When Termites Fly

Flying out like a flash of light winged paired alates

Swarming in the open after one or two showers

Happily mate as adventurous humans in honeymoon

But the festive mood of forming a fresh colony soon

Fades as they are preyed upon by men and other predators

Like mantises, dragon flies, lizards, birds, bats, toads and frogs.

 Moon in the Evening Sky

Sitting in the evening under the cloud covered sky

Suddenly I found over my head a moon almost round;

As I Wondered how it dared to show itself without being shy

Like the bright Sun shining in the noon smooth and sound;

Stealthily crawling a big bodied watery droll soon

Devoured the beautiful moon.
