Photo Essay: California Farmworker – FDR

IN 1935 PRESIDENT FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT

SIGNS THE  “NATIONAL LABOR RELATIONS ACT”

The Act guarantees these basic worker rights:

(1)  The right to organize into unions

(2) The right to bargain with employer for better wages

(3) The right to bargain with employer for better work conditions

(4) The right to strike

The Act specifically excludes farmworkers and domestic workers

from these basic worker rights.

Result:

2-3 million farmworkers

& 2-3 million domestic workers have no worker rights.

Why?
