Firenze, A Lifetime Later

Narrated by Kristine Doll

‘A cavatina of broken parlando utterances’

punctuated by sighs

was the sound of the river Arno passing through

that Tuscan countryside that evening

as we lay on a grass bank

trailing our hands in the ochre waters

as if we were students again

just hitchhiked down from Paris

and as if this dream re-enactment

might have the same ending again

as that first time we

returned to the same pensione

and made love in the same camera

to the dark tremolo of the same doves

Only this time

our lives not shaken

by our coming
