And She Like a Young Deer

Narrated by Dov Rose

Washington State

And she like a young year

walking thru the earth’

in the Bois de Boulogne that time

or as I remember her

stepping out of a bathtub

in that gold flat she had

corner of

Boulevard des Italiens

Oh they say she tried everything

before the end

Look up television and crosswords

even crocheting

and things like that

and came to have the air

before the end

(as her favorite poet described her)

of ‘always carrying flowers

toward some far

abandoned tomb’

which doesn’t surprise me now

that I come to think of it

The struck seed was in her
