You know: just reach out your hand . . .

Written by Dmytro Chystiak

Translated from the Ukrainian by Hilary Sheers

Narrated by Kristine Doll

You know: just reach out your hand –

And frightened birds will fall to earth,

What gilds these grey-blue waters?

There is no need for a distant voice …

Yet I do not pass by you again –

And evening’s threshold opens

In the sparkling of emerald eyes

(Above receding waters is an emerald shore),

Although your words breathe farewell,

But gazing into dreams of birds

I feel a warmth through years

I feel a warmth through distance,

What lay down today between us,

What cries silently between us –

Yet warmth will envelop emerald:

Above the mountains as it does today,

Dnieper waters flow and golden birds.
