Freedom’s Frontliners
By Jennifer Lagier
At 71, confined to semi-quarantine
during a year of pandemic,
I appreciate essential electoral workers
who phone bank, walk precincts, raise funds,
write letters to the editor,
address campaign post cards,
install yard signs,
find creative ways to engage community,
organize, get out the vote,
keep hope alive.
Everyday volunteers
push back against those who would
suppress our voices,
take away voting rights,
discourage participation.
Willing to walk the talk,
they labor to preserve democracy,
patriotic souls on the front lines
to protect American freedom.
