“HIDING IN THE SHADOW OF THE CROSS”

By New York Poet  J.H. Johns

Narration By Paul Mann

Believers?
So they say.

Practioners?
That’s what they’ll tell you.

Followers?
That’s what they contend.

Ah,
But here is where it gets interesting!

Deniers?
Maybe.

Liars?
Only if they reflect.

Hypocrites?
Others would charge.

Holy?
By what standard?

Saved?
Says who?

Calling on – Jesus as Lord;
invoking – God as Father;
they practice what they call faith
for the chance
to sin
over and over, again!

Sheltering themselves
and
their peculiar brand
of
semi-psuedo
forever forgiving
excesses
in
themselves
and others?

Yes,
The sun’s less bright
And the heat’s more tolerable
when they stand or sit –
and lives their lives –

hiding in the shadow of the cross.
