And She Like a Young Deer

AND SHE “LIKE A YOUNG YEAR . . .’

 

And she like a young year 

walking thru the earth’ 

in the Bois de Boulogne that time 

or as I remember her 

stepping out of a bathtub 

in that gold flat she had 

corner of 

Boulevard des Italiens 

Oh they say she tried everything 

before the end 

Look up television and crosswords 

even crocheting 

and things like that 

and came to have the air 

before the end 

(as her favorite poet described her) 

of ‘always carrying flowers 

toward some far 

abandoned tomb’

which doesn’t surprise me now 

that I come to think of it

The struck seed was in her
